Ok, a little behind but here is my post on our New Years trip. Left with Amy from Edmonton on Thursday and drove the 8 hour haul to the lake. The drive was fairly decent except for a little bit of black ice past Jasper. We stayed at our neighbours place as ours isn't winterized. Their house is fabulous! They live there full time in a lovely new home they had built over the past couple years. I am so happy that they brought us into their home for the weekend. It was so much fun our family is planning a trip out for next year already!
We had brought our ice skates with us, but turns out the ice wasn't quite ready for us Friday. The boys went out later in the night and flooded an area for us to turn into a rink. Friday we hung around the cabin, threw on our snow gear and went sledding down the steep driveway. What fun that was!! Turns out I am a master toboggan navigator - who knew!? Deb made us an absolutely amazing turkey dinner. Yummy! Saturday a few of us woke up early and headed out to Sun Peaks Resort for an awesome day of snowboarding. My cousin Megan and her boyfriend Jake met up with us at lunch, which was perfect! The 2 of them ended up coming back to the lake to spend the night with us. After a great day of riding we drove back to the cabin, made some dinner and celebrated the new years.
I wasn't feeling too well with flu symptoms, so I headed off to bed around 8pm for a nap and ended up falling asleep for the night. Party animal!! Sunday was a perfect day filled with delicious meals, ice skating, shinny hockey, Hot Chocolate & Baileys, laughter and good time with friends and family. Couldn't have had a better last day. Monday, woke up and drove the 8 hours back to Edmonton.
What a weekend, with a quick turn around! Had a blast, thanks again to Deb and Dan for having myself and my family out. Here are some snapshots of the fun:
